A Virtual Seminar with Laura Piontkowski from Abby Care

Laura Piontkowski is the Central PA Outreach Coordinator for Abby Care. Abby Care helps families of children with disabilities to train and certify as a home health aide in order for families to get paid to provide the quality at-home care for their child. In this presentation, you will learn about the process of becoming a home health aide in addition to the requirements of the program.

On Screen/In Person Film Series: Code of the Freaks – FREE

A radical reframing of the use of disabled characters in film, gathering hundreds of clips from over a century of Hollywood favorites – viewed with a fresh perspective by on-the-ground disability activists, artists, and scholars. Taking its title from Tod Browning’s 1932 classic, Code of the Freaks counters formulaic “inspiration porn” with a powerful corrective, daring to imagine a cinematic landscape that centers the voices of disabled people.

Adapted Egg Hunt!

We are offering an adapted egg hunt for kinds with different abilities up to the age of 14. This hunt is intended to be sensory friendly with adaptations made to make eggs more accessible, including accommodations for height, visual limitations, and retrieving eggs. In order for us to make the most helpful accommodations, registration is requested by 4/14.

Alice in Wonderland

Presented by Fulton Theatre

The Fulton Theatre will present a dedicated sensory-friendly performance of Alice in Wonderland on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 9:00 am. This performance will be a relaxed, friendly, and supportive environment for children and adults who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or other sensory needs,, and their families. The performance will run under an hour.

Sensory Friendly performance adjustments include:

  • Spacing between families seated in the theatre
  • Reduction of any loud and jarring sounds
  • Eliminating strobe and flashing lights
  • House lights will be faintly dimmed, but will remain on
  • Reduction of any elements of the show that might be considered “scary”
  • Break areas will be available with a live video feed of the show for anyone who may need to leave their seats during the performance
  • A social story will be made available on the Fulton Theatre website to help audience members prepare for a performance at the theatre
  • A special fidget will be given to each child attending the performance
  • Parking is available across the street, adjacent to Central Market
