Presented by Meg Kutz from 3.21 For Life PA
Aaron’s Acres hosted a virtual seminar on Tuesday, May 28 featuring Meg Kutz, co-founder of 3.21 For Life. The topic of this seminar was “Creating Connections for you and your child”. Throughout her presentation, Meg spoke of the importance of establishing connections with others within one’s community –within the school setting, with friends and family, and with organizations. Her foundation centers on “Life is Great” and bases her work around each letter of the word “great” and what each letter represents.
Meg is an inspiration to all as her positive attitude and willingness to be “out there” is exceptional. Her thinking is to have high expectations for your child and not to let others dictate how your child can participate and what your child can do. Her belief is to always aim high as she believes you will always end up further than what you think. During this presentation, Meg shared that it is okay to ask for help and share with others the challenges you are facing. Having conversations and exploring ways in which to address issues and concerns can be extremely helpful as it creates informal supportive networking and can strengthen all who participate. In having conversations with others, you are also creating teachable moments as others learn about your child and what she can do—not just focusing on her disability.
In all that she does, she stresses the importance of giving each child a voice and creating opportunities in which to enrich her child’s life as well as those around her. As part of her journey, she and a close friend, JoAnn Pagano founded 3.21 For Life. The website is: 321forlife.com. The mission of this organization is the following: Our mission is to educate the world on the special attributes of those with Down syndrome and raise awareness on how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in the lives of everyone they meet and in the communities in which they live.
As this topic is a most meaningful one for our families, our plan is to schedule this seminar again within the coming year.
