The summer camp supervisor’s play an essential role in the planning and execution of our summer programs. Their main role is to provide ongoing support and assistance to staff, provide written and verbal communication to families, provide a fun atmosphere while ensuring the safety of all participants, and overseeing the entire camp program.
We want to introduce you to our 2024 Summer Camp Supervisors and let you know why they’re excited for camp. We asked them two questions; what they are looking forward to most and why they feel we do what we do. Here are their responses.
Jackie McArdle
Professional Title: Special Education Consultant for Secondary, Center Based Emotional Support at Lancaster Lebanon IU13.
- I am looking forward to seeing the big smiles on the campers’ faces and helping them to create lasting memories. Creating experiences for them that they might not have had previously is something I continue to look forward to each year.
- I believe that we do what we do in order to create experiences for children and young adults with disabilities that they may not be able to have in everyday life, as well as providing them with a space of unconditional love and acceptance.
Lindsey Chrismer
High School Life Skills Teach at Susquenita School District
- There are two main parts of camp I look forward to every year. First, the smiles on campers’ faces when they arrive at camp. I love seeing campers shouting out the windows, running towards camp, and hugging their friends. Second, I love watching the rapport that gets built between campers and counselors. The bonds that we get to watch get built are forever lasting! Watching counselors engage, explore, and engage with campers is an amazing thing to witness.
- This camp enables individuals who do not get the opportunities of “every day” summer experiences to be a part of a community that provides those experiences for them! Aaron’s Acres allows friendships to be made, and fun to be had!
Madison Heider
Area Supervisor at Keystone Human Services
- I am looking forward to all the new faces that we have this summer, both participants and staff! It is so fun to watch new campers get to experience our programming for the first time & also to watch staff grow through the activities we offer.
- I think our camp gives access to experiences that some of our campers may never get the chance to do, I think our camp gives parents/caretakers a well-deserved break from the everyday giving that they are so used to, and I think our camp provides learning opportunities for staff to see these participants outside of the classroom setting, just enjoying the fun of being a kid at camp.
Maddie Vucenic
K-6 Autistic Support Teacher at Warwick School District
- With camp right around the corner, I am looking forward to working with amazing staff who are going to gain an abundance of hands on experience this summer, and to seeing the smiling faces of the participants!
- Personally, I do what I do for the participants. There is no amount of words that can describe the joy I feel seeing the participants do something they love or accomplishing something they haven’t done before! The joy the participants get from arriving at camp each morning is exactly why I arrive at camp. It is to continue to create an environment where everyone is supported, accepted, and encouraged to try new things.
