Program Activity Ideas: St. Patrick’s Day

Activity Idea #1: Leprechaun Pattern Path

Supplies

  • Rainbow colored assortment of pom-poms
  • Large White Rolled Paper
  • Markers
  • Velcro

Directions

  1. Lay the large white paper roll on the floor. The length is up to you! Consider how long you want your path to be.
  2. Use dot markers or regular markers to create a patterned path on the white paper.
  3. Place a small piece of Velcro in the middle of each dot or shape in the pattern.
  4. Draw or add a picture of a leprechaun, four-leaf clover or pot of gold at the end of your rainbow path.
  5. Grab your pom-poms and you are ready to go!

How to Play

Start at the beginning of the path. Your goal is to follow the patterned path, in order, and reach the leprechaun, four-leaf clover or pot of gold at the end!

Accommodations

  • Add a timer
  • Create a simpler or more complex path

Activity Idea #2: Pot of Gold Craft

Supplies

  • Light blue cardstock or construction paper
  • Foam paper in the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, dark blue, purple
  • Bag of mini gold pom-poms
  • Cotton balls
  • Black cupcake liners
  • Glue sticks

Directions

  1. Cut your foam paper into strips for the rainbow stripes.
  2. Put your foam strips into rainbow order and then glue them on the light blue piece of paper coming down from the top, like the rainbow is shooting off the page.
  3. Fold the top quarter or so of your cupcake liner down to make a straight edge at the top. Glue the new flat edge of your cupcake liner onto your paper at the base of your rainbow.
  4. Add the gold mini pom-poms at the top of your pot as the gold at the end of the rainbow!

Activity Idea #3: Rainbow Weaving

Supplies

  • Paper plates
  • Pipe cleaners in the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple
  • Scissors
  • Optional: cotton balls
  • Optional: colored pencils

Directions

  1. Cut the paper plate in half.
  2. If interested, the participant can now color the half you are using to create the sky.
  3. Cut slices like a pizza, from the middle center to the outer edges. Be sure not to cut from edge to edge so that the plate stays together for weaving.
  4. Now you are ready to weave! Weave the piper cleaners like a rainbow through the slices.
  5. If interested, you can add the cotton balls as clouds when you are done weaving.
  6. Accommodations: if more time, participants can color the paper plate and add cotton balls
