Program Activity Ideas For This Weekend!

Activity Idea #1: Barbell Sandwiches

Supplies

  • Pretzels
  • Bread
  • Ham, Turkey, or other preferred option
  • Cheese
  • Cookie cutter (circle, star, or other shape)

Directions

  1. Use a circle or star shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the bread, ham, and cheese. Cut out double the amount of bread shapes.
  2. Carefully construct your sandwiches. Each sandwich should have 2 bread cut outs, 1 ham cut out, and 1 cheese cut out. You will need 2 sandwiches for each barbell.
  3. Carefully poke a pretzel through one sandwich. If this is difficult, you can cut out the center before placing the pretzel through the sandwich.
  4. Now carefully poke the pretzel through a second sandwich. You should now have a pretzel stick with a small sandwich attached on each side. You have a barbell!
  5. If you want to take it a step further, you can add weight numbers to your barbell with smaller pretzel pieces. Butter, mayo, or something similar can help to adhere the numbers to the sandwich.

Activity Idea #2: Catch the Ball

Supplies

  • Empty Hawaiian Fruit Punch container, empty gallon container
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Ping pong balls (small enough to fit inside toilet paper roll)

Directions

  1. Cut a hole in the bottom of the container. It should be just big enough for the toilet paper roll.
  2. Place the toilet paper roll inside the opening you cut in the container.
  3. Drop the ping pong balls through the toilet paper roll.
  4. Flip the container over so that the toilet paper roll is at the bottom and the ping pong balls are laying at the bottom of the container.
  5. Now, you’re ready to play! Lightly shake and bounce the container, trying to get the ping pong balls into the toilet paper roll and back out of the container.

Activity Idea #3: Sport Ball Matching

Supplies

Directions

  1. Create your cards or, if you’re using cards that you found online, print them, and cut them out.
  2. You can choose to have the child match shapes, match the same object, or match the ball to the associated piece of equipment where the ball is used. Examples:
    1. Matching a soccer ball with a basketball – they’re both the same shape.
    2. Matching a tennis ball with a tennis ball – they’re the same object.
    3. Matching a basketball with a hoop – they’re both the same sport and the ball is used to make baskets in the hoop.
  3. Start matching!
